Race Report From Jo Lawn : Podium at 70.3 Lubbock, Texas

Lubbock is an event that is considered fantastic preparation for the heat and humidity found in Hawaii, similar race conditions as at the Ford Ironman World Championship. This could certainly be seen as part of the reason why Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake has become such a mainstay on the Ironman circuit for so many years

Jo lawn was once again on the podium in 70.3 Lubbock, Texas; where last year she finished 3rd to Miranda Carfrae and Joanna Zeiger former 70.3 World Champions.

” It was an interesting day, I only decided to race Lubbock 70.3 after I raced in the Kansas 70.3, I thought to myself, well I think my legs have one more race in them before taking my usual mid-season break. I also wanted to check how my new nutrition formula and process goes during hot and humid race conditions; however the conditions turned completely opposite - cooler temperatures and alot of rain, so much that the run course was full of puddles. But the one thing we did get alot of was wind. Just what the course always promises.”

“Overall with all my mid-season races I learnt so much and I was able to gather some very important information for Hawaii. My outlook for these races was; focusing on non-wetsuit swims, get use to being comfortable in my new TYR Sayonara skinsuit; HARD non drafting bike sessions to gather more data of my Power/Calories expenditures. Very useful information. Then lastly for the run, practice racing to the wire in hot and stressful conditions. Also, for me to race without taking too many porta-loo stops. I can safely say that my mission was accomplished - even though I did not win any of these races, the experience and data is priceless….and for me the big picture is always Hawaii”

Toni Bradshaw podiums in USA

Kinetic Edge athlete Toni Bradshaw finished 3rd in Sundays Tour of America’s Dairyland Stage 2.
Away in an early breakaway, Toni rode aggressively but couldn’t quite shake the last two riders in the break.

Kinetic Edge Survey Results

The recent customer survey gave the team at Kinetic Edge some interesting results that presented us with some areas that need improvement and fine tuning and also confirmed a few points that we already knew. A couple interesting points that came from the survey were…….

The survey found that Personalised Training Programmes was the key area of service that we provide that you enjoy the most! This area was more significant than any other area (ie. time efficiency, fitness for health, the scientific approach etc.)

Communication was an area that respondents of the survey commented upon alot. Most respondents felt communication frequency was great and that a 50/50mix was key. But it was also mentioned that coach initiated communication could be improved, therefore KE coaches will be working on improving follow-up communication post programme dispensing and also emphasising using the telephone as a more frequent method of communication.

Many of you wished to spend more time with your respective coach, one-on-one cycling. To accommodate this wish, coaches are now mixing in an on the bike coach-client training review as opposed to the sit down review that has existed usually. Also do not forget that if you do wish to improve your practical bike skills we offer one-on-one and group training sessions as an extra. Plus if you see a coach out training, don’t be afraid to say hi and introduce yourself, they are more than happy to get to know you.

One final point to come out of the survey is that many of the respondents wished for us to have a more community feel. We are in the process of working on a few initiatives to create this feel. In August look out for some exclusive blackboard sessions for our athletes only. Make sure you come along to the KE Drinks held on the first Friday evening of every month, as it is a great opportunity to catch up outside of the sporting environment! Plus keep looking at the Coaches blog for future initiatives….

Thank you for participating in the survey. Your thoughts and comments will help us better serve your needs. If you ever have any feedback to improve our services don’t hesitate to get in touch.
